Before you hire
- Texas has no statewide license for pool builders or general contractors (see our licensing guide). Ask who does the pool's electrical and plumbing work and for those trade licenses, and check reviews, references and insurance.
- Get the contract, payment schedule and written warranty (structure, equipment, finish, workmanship) before any money changes hands, and make sure payments track completed stages.
- Confirm who pulls the building permit and who handles HOA approval, and that the price includes the required pool barrier/fence.
- Get 2–3 written, itemized quotes for the same size, type and features.
